Last week this time, I didn't know a Weeping Beech existed. Now, I have seen, not only one, but two gigantic specimen. I recognized the second by its elephant like "skin" (bark) The canopy creates a huge room underneath and the leaves were so strong and silky that we would have thought them artificial if we hadn't seen the tree bearing them.

We had two huge weeping beech in our front yard on Long Island: my childhood home. Both were a place of imaginative play! They are still there , although we moved South in 1968.

How fun to play there and what a great memory. Thanks for this, Bonnie.

A wee explanation: this website was created as a way to amplify the daily surprise of seeing glory in one small life. The notebook entries represented here are all selected from things actually lived and noted on paper in an effort to live the full life British educator Charlotte Mason so ably championed.
