Poke-berry. Beautiful but poisonous to humans. Being researched as a possible medicine for R.A. and Aids. The greens are known in some parts of the South as an early spring dish after being boiled, twice. Dyes and ink were also made of the berry. (soldiers sometimes wrote home during the Civil War with poke berry ink) The plant I saw was taller than me with a sturdy cane like stalk like bamboo. The guide told me they are very invasive.

A wee explanation: this website was created as a way to amplify the daily surprise of seeing glory in one small life. The notebook entries represented here are all selected from things actually lived and noted on paper in an effort to live the full life British educator Charlotte Mason so ably championed.
