A fowl weekend! -- saw several red tailed hawks and 5 fat male turkeys on the side of the highway on the way to Canada. Mom's feeder was like Penn Station--emptied of sunflower seed by teeming chickadees in just two days! I saw my first Pine Grosbeaks. The mature male is red; this year's crop are light brown (m) and light green (f). They are part of the finch family but LARGE, 8-9 inches and shaped like a fat robin. I painted him but he was garish and awkward...the red and black in my picture remind me of a bad Chinese restaurant. I wish i had been more careful to get the colours right.

A wee explanation: this website was created as a way to amplify the daily surprise of seeing glory in one small life. The notebook entries represented here are all selected from things actually lived and noted on paper in an effort to live the full life British educator Charlotte Mason so ably championed.
