A very New England walk and within a mile of home I saw cygnets and a pair of swans, mallards and females, Canada Geese, sunfish, two kinds of waterlily that I need to find a name for and draw, wild roses, milkweed in bloom, massive elderberries....but i am aware that although I recognize some "old friends," I am using my nature notebook rather randomly. It helps me notice for sure butI think it is time for a "special study" that will put me in a more disciplined posture. I got a book from the library called Backyard Foraging. Maybe I will try and learn those plants.

A wee explanation: this website was created as a way to amplify the daily surprise of seeing glory in one small life. The notebook entries represented here are all selected from things actually lived and noted on paper in an effort to live the full life British educator Charlotte Mason so ably championed.
